Travel stoRy #33 – The Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest (Romania)
The Travel stoRy on Tuesday takes you this week to an impressing structure, namely the Palace of the Parliament in the capital of Romania, Bucharest. This building is the current seat of the Parliament of Romania and it was completed in 1997, even if its construction started in 1984, under the rule of the communist ruler, Nicolae Ceaușescu.
The Place covers an area of 365.000 square meters, 240 meters long, 270 meters wide and a height of 84 meters, making it the second largest administrative building worldwide, second only to the Pentagon in the United States of America.
Also, its characteristics allows it to be the third biggest building in the world altogether, after the Vehicle Assembly Building (U.S.A.) and the Temple of the Feathered Serpent (Mexico). Finally, its weight makes it the heaviest building in the world. It has 1.100 rooms, 12 floors and circa 700 architects worked for its design.
