Stockholm Subway with stoRy touRs
Fridhemsplan is a subway station in Stockholm and connects the blue and the green line in Kungsholmen neighborhood. For us, the art here pictures perspectives of liberty and peace, as its name may suggest too. On the other hand, it’s a reminder of our actions on the environment.
Serving two subway lines, the station has two sections. The one for the green line opened in 1952, while the one for the blue line opened in 1975. The blue part of the station goes around 30 meters under the ground.
The green line part of the station has no art work, showing a mix of bright yellow and green walls. On the other hand, the blue line part of the station was designed by Ingegerd Möller as a sea station.
The colorful stipples on the walls are a reminder of the sea’s activity. This is completed at one of the entrances by an exposition of a real boat from Blekinge. Along the station one will find references to human impact on the marine environment.
