Photo stoRy for today™ – Jussi Björling, the Swedish opera star of the 20th century
The beginning of February marks the birthday of one of the most famous opera singers of the 20th century, Jussi Björling. He was born in the little town of Borlänge, North of Stockholm. Hard work and his wonderful tenor voice opened for him the doors of Metropolitan Opera New York, La Scala in Milan and many other leading Opera houses all around Europe. Luciano Pavarotti said: “When I’m about to train a new opera, I first listen to how Jussi Björling did it”. There are several monuments dedicated to Jussi Björling in several cities in Sweden and all around the world. One of them you can find next to the Royal Opera House in Stockholm.
