Things to do for free on Christmas week in Stockholm

The Christmas Day is now less than one week away. And as we are feeling the Christmas spirit in full swing, we prepared some more tips for you to properly enjoy the most beautiful time of the year. For free!!!

In previous posts we talked about the Old Town’s Christmas Market and the Christmas decorations (here), the Living Calendar of the Old Town (here), the Christmas at NK and the exhibition of gingerbread houses at the Swedish Center for Architecture and Design (here). But there are even more wonderful things you can do for fre in Stockholm this time of the year.

First, do not miss the Christmas Eve at Skansen! On Saturday, the 24th of December, the world-famous open-air museum will have free entrance between 10.00 and 14.00! The hosts invite you to take a break from the preparations and enjoy the holiday spirit in a cozy atmosphere. Here you can buy last-minute gifts, see live demonstrations for various crafts, see the animals being feed or just enjoy this fantastic museum. Put it on your to-do list!

Also, there is one Christmas Market worth checking out, namely the traditional Christmas market at Steninge castle. A place worth visiting for beauty of the castle alone! But the market adds to its value, being organized in an old barn, offering 1500 square meters full of joy! Note the opening hours are from 11.00 to 18.00 until the 23rd of December. You can reach the castle by using the public transport. You can take the commuters’ train to Märsta from Centralen and then the bus 580 until Tellusgatan. From here you have to take a cca. 2 km walk through a wonderful Christmas setting to the castle. If you come by car, the address is: Steninge Slottsgalleria, Stenladugården, 195 91 Märsta.

The holiday season gives yet another opportunity for a good time in the Swedish capital. This time we are talking about the chance to ice skate for free, right in the big city. One place where you can do that is in Vasaparken. The rink is open from 8.00 to 21.00 daily, and from 10.00 to 21.00 on weekend. Also, check out the rink in Kungsträdgården, where you can skate for free right in the middle of Stockholm. Here you can even rent ice skates and get professional help from the staff. The opening hours are from 09.00 to 21.00 on weekdays and from 10.00 to 21.00 on weekends. Note: the ice rink is closed on the 24th of December.

Make the most of your Christmas time in Sweden!
