StockholmSubwaystoRy #54 – Axelsberg

Stockholm Subway with stoRy touRs

Axelsberg is the first station we bring to you in 2017! In the meantime, don’t forget our anniversary contest! Share with us your favorite station and get the chance to win some cool souvenirs from us! Find more information about it here.

Today’s station was opened in May 1965 and it severs the T13 red line in the Stockholm subway system. Is located in the area with the same name, in the district of Hägersten, in western part of Stockholm.

The line which passes by Axelsberg is connecting the south-western part of the network with the north-eastern one. Towards the south, after this station, comes Mälarhöjden, while towards the north, comes Örnsberg.

The decorations here are represented by the name of the station written in 4 meters-high letters made out of glass, stone, concrete, sand, plastic and iron. Each of them with a different style. The letters are placed alongside the tracks. The artistic decorations were made in 1983 by Leif Bolter, Veine Johansson, Inga Modén och Gösta Wessel.

The station has one large platform out in the open and two tracks along side it, while there is only one entrance hall, towards the western end. Here pass by a bit more than 2.300 people on a regular weekday, being one of the less crowded stations in the city.
