Photo stoRy for today™ – Bergman and the best films of all time
The photo shows a postcard I bought the other day at the Medeltidsmuseet in Stockholm. It depicts a scene of a knight playing chess against Death. Albertus Pictor painted it in the 15th century in the church of Täby Kyrkby. Ingmar Bergman got inspired by this dramatic painting when working on his film “The Seventh Seal” (Det sjunde inseglet). The film is one of Bergman’s favourite and best known films and is listed on IMD (Internet Movie Database) in 119th place in the top 250 film classics of all time.
If you would like to visit this church, take a red line tube to Mörby Centrum, then bus 611 to Täby Kyrkby (45-60 minutes in total).
